Astanga yoga retreats are suitable for both beginners and advanced students. They follow Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras’ well-known eight limbs of yoga philosophy (astau – eight; anga – branch, leg, limb), taught in the tradition of Petri’s Guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and his grandson, R. Sharath Jois of Mysore, India.
In the light of Petri’s own Astanga practice, learning and experience, he has designed these courses to cover extensive yoga practice and philosophy. The student achieves a sense of wholeness through the practice of poses (asanas), energy-enhancing breathing (uijayi- pranayama), and gazing points (drishti) and energy locks/muscle control (bandhas), which leads to deep concentration (pratyahara) and meditation (dhyana). This method is known as Astanga Vinyasa Yoga, as taught by Pattabhi Jois. Longer workshops and retreats (Thailand and Swedish Lapland) cover several other aspects of yoga, such as reciting mantras, studying Sanskrit, the classical Indian language, and learning Ayurveda, sister science to yoga. Petri’s aim is to teach his students in a peaceful, individualised way while keeping to the powerful, disciplined and traditional practice of physical and mental development.
Yoga can be an effective and beneficial tool for reaching a more peaceful state of mind, managing stress better and getting physically fit. Our workshops and retreats are designed for people with normal physical and mental conditions. If you are on medication, are currently taking (or have taken) therapy and/or counseling, or have any known mental condition(s) that would in any way hinder your participation in a workshop or retreat, please let us, and your doctor/therapist know before registering. We do not provide any specialists at our workshops/retreats who would be able to help, should the need arise. If a student’s behaviour causes disruption for other workshop participants and the teachers, it is requested that he or she stop participating in the workshop and seek appropriate help. In such a situation, we do not offer refunds, but are available to provide any documents necessary for insurance claims.
